In Ohio, can I file a claim in court against a friend that lost 0 in “poker credit” to me?

Question by MatthewPV: In Ohio, can I file a claim in court against a friend that lost 0 in "poker credit" to me?
In Ohio, poker (or games of chance) is legal if played with friends at home as long as the house doesn't take a profit. Me and my friends sometimes play on "credit" and on good faith if they don't have the cash on them at the time. Over the course of the last year and a half, one of my friends has $ 500 in debt to me. I have many witnesses. I have been patient and now I would like to collect on this "credit" i extended to him. Would I be able to file a claim in small claims court for this? If not, what other legal avenues would I have?

Q&A: How can I pursue action against someone who stole money from me in exchange for “credit repair”?

Question by Aline B: How can I pursue action against someone who stole money from me in exchange for "credit repair"?
Nearly a year ago I paid someone to repair my credit. She is licensed. I have a written contract. She has done nothing to help my credit and will not respond to email or telephone inquiries. How can I report her to state licensing agencies (Texas) and the credit bureaus?

Answer by My Take on It
This is the problem with those who claim (outrageously) that they can *repair your credit*. They won't be able to remove anything derogatory that is there legally. It may come off for a month, while they investigate..but will go back on just as quick and stay there for the duration of the SOL. If you earned that bad mark, it is meant to be there for other creditors to see, so they can make an educated guess on whether you are a good risk for a loan.

If there is some sort of licensing board that oversees credit repair people, I guess you could complain to them. You could lodge a complaint with the BBB against her. Even if you tried to sue her in small claims, I highly doubt you would prevail.

Who gives loans against SSDI benefits?

Question by John: Who gives loans against SSDI benefits?
I currently collect SSDI benefits and am 44 yrs old. I need a personal loan between ,000-,500. I find it hard to believe that the Social Security Administration doesn't have a program in place. If they risk becoming insolvent soon, why not loan money and charge interest? In any event, my question is: Are there any lenders (legitimate) who offer personal loans to risky, bad credit borrowers(me) with a pretty much guaranteed ability to pay? Please no responses such as: "you should try to slowly pay down your debt to increase your fico score." I have personal as well as credit report obligations that I need addressed immediately. Thanks very much for any suggestions....
