Q&A: What’s the best and cheapest place to get a credit score?

Question by Seeker2008: What’s the best and cheapest place to get a credit score?
Basically, my mom is going to be looking into buying a house soon. She wants to check her credit score. Which score is the actual one necessary to check? I’ve seen FICO and all types of other general “credit scores” that could be checked.

Which does a mortgage company look for, and just how many different “types” of credit scores are there? I know that a credit score is a summary of the creditworthiness based on one or up to all three of your credit reports. But where is the safest, cheapest and most reliable place to purchase a credit score online?

Don’t pay for your credit score, and don’t sign up for some credit monitoring service with a bunch of fine print and a monthly fee after the free trial period.

Just go to the bank, sit down with a loan officer and start talking. Have as much info available as you can, such as tax returns to prove your income, etc etc. Tell them you don’t know your credit score and ask if they can check it for you. They’ll pull it up and give you a printed copy with your report and score from all 3 credit agencies, 100% free with no strings attached and no trial period plans to cancel.

Another advantage of doing it right there at the bank is that you can discuss the credit report with the loan person and they can give you tips on what to do to improve your credit to help you qualify (if necessary) or let you know how your score is going to affect your loan options, rates, etc.

Is Providian credit score a joke? ?

Question by tunabomberswillcrushyou: Is Providian credit score a joke? ?
it seems they score you on your personal payment history with them, not your actual credit score with trans union. There is close to 100 pt difference between my actual score with trans union and their “FICO SCORE” it seems they are just trying to motivate their customers to keep paying on time as it will continue to increase their credit score…what a bunch of crap…I wish I really had an 850 score

Best answer:

Answer by David
Research the top rated credit card issuers.. Providian used to be one of the worst

Years ago when I had no choice .. I had a dealt with these people

Heres the thing…

Use the card wisely.. pay it off each month and regardless of interest or your credit score with them … you will build good credit and someday get a decent rate from a good company

Be wise.. Think twice if you really need it and someday you will have that 850

Experian won’t give me a credit score, but they gave me a “vantage score”?

Question by Diane S: Experian won’t give me a credit score, but they gave me a “vantage score”?
So why do I have 3 different scores? I went to freecreditreport.com and they have my scores SO low, but yet my bank gave me my REAL Fico scores and they were pretty decent for my poor history. Experian is higher on that site than my lowest one, and would be my “mid-low” score, which is what my bank needs, yet Experian is saying that I have no score! THEN they gave me my “score” that they had for me? Which is completely worthless. So I asked my banker about it and she said that my creditors aren’t reporting. So to me, that means I should have GOOD CREDIT, whereas it reality it means that I have NO credit. Makes NO SENSE!?
Well I checked out that myfico.com and Experian is the ONE score I do need. I know they said I have “no credit” but yet I have 2 open accounts (I know, negative for scoring but still shows SOMETHING) and then two or three other closed accounts. Still just need EXPERIAN. The bank needs all 3 in order to approve me! :) But keep answering please.

Answer by My Take on It
For your true score, you need to go to http://www.myfico.com. It will cost you under to get the scores that lenders use.
Be sure to cancel whatever subscription you signed up for on freecreditreport dot com. They enrolled you in a credit monitoring service that will be charged to your credit card or bank account every month. They also will charge you if you do not cancel in 3 or 7 days I believe.

Q&A: Credit score confusion?

Question by Ronny: Credit score confusion?
I want to know how many types of credit scores are available in US and by the term “FICO score” which score do we really refer to.

Thanks

Answer by Go Blue!
It’s FICA with an A. That’s the main one. There are numerous credit companies that all use it. They are Equifax, Experion, and TransUnion (I’m not sure about the last one’s name.) A new law passed in January, and they have to give you your credit record and score for free. Check with all three to see that they match.

What is an Equifax Risk Score?

Question by Valerie: What is an Equifax Risk Score?
My bf just ordered his annualcreditreport and score and it gave him 727 but in fine print it says “this is your “equifax risk score” not your FICO score”. What is this and how does it relate to his actual score?

A FICO score is all 3 credit bureau’s risk score averaged.
